MUNICIPALITY OF AGIOS ATHANASIOS IN COOPERATION WITH CYPRUS ENERGY REGULAROTY AUTHORITY (CERA)
ORGANIZED LECTURE FOR IMPROVING COMPETITION AND RETAINING ENERGY COST
– REDUCING ENERGY –
SUBSIDIES OF RENEWABLE FORMS OF ENERGY
The president of CERA Mr. Kypros Kyprianides congratulated the Municipality for its initiative (the first from local authorities) and explain the current situation on energy in Cyprus. Then he referred to the role of CERA in enhancing the use of renewable forms of energy, preserving the environment and reducing energy costs. In the end, he answered questions and gave information and leaflets about all kinds of incentives and subsidies for exploiting renewable forms of energy.
The lecture was attended by citizens, technical Consultants and pupils working in energy issues within SOCRATES / COMENIUS projects.
The GRUNDTVIG GROUP of Agios Athanasios Municipality organized a lecture in cooperation with CERA (Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority) at the Cultural Center of the Municipality on December 14, 2005. The aim of the lecture was to inform people about energy policies in Cyprus.
The mayor Mr. Kyriakos Hadjittofis in his introductory speech said that the issue of energy remains high in the agenda of several Committees in the European Union because of its economic and environmental dimensions and that E.U. will soon publish the GREEN BOOK for the energy policy of the member states.
Mr. Panayiotis Athanasiou, on behalf of the GRUNDTVIG GROUP, explained the framework of European Union, the program of SOCRATES / GRUNDTVIG – 2 and the project CLAY (Cooperative Learning by Ambiental activity) which is running now with partners from Germany and Italy. He also gave an account for the first meeting in Germany and the experiences for recycling and energy practices. He emphasized the importance of cooperative learning through this kind of projects.
