Visit in the facilities for purifying water in Orestiada
A view from the facilities of water purification in Orestiada
In the framework of the program with the topic “Water in our region” that we undertook during the school year 2004-2005, our Environmental team visited the center for water purification of our town on December 15 2004. The aim of our visit was to witness the procedure of sewage process and to assess the quality of water that flows in the fields and, subsequently into the river Evros.
Our transportation to the center was feasible with the aid of a mini-bus that was kindly made available for the purpose of the visit by the Mayor of our town. We were accompanied by the coordinators of the programme Mr. P. Fylaktakidis and Mr. V. Bezirgiannidis.
Our team was guided by Mr. A. Papadopoulos, chemist in the Public Enterprise of Water and Sewage and by Mr. S. Papadopoulos, engineer and Board member of the Enterprise. All stages of the procedure were analytically reviewed and our visit ended with a short lunch at the Chemistry building. Subsequently, we discussed about the quality of water in our town and Mr. S. Papadopoulos added that water is harmless for our health while mineral water is ‘canned’ water. We wrote in the guestbook about our opinion of our visit and returned home full of new experiences.
